Keep Your Glow with Safi Age Defy Gold Water Essence

As we hit that age where we're not teens anymore but also not old already, let's just say we're mature. Our skin usually starts showing signs of aging, such as smile lines, dark spots, sagging, dullness, and a lack of radiance. I’ve dealt with severe acne that left stubborn scars, which makes things worse. While hunting for products to tackle acne, I’ve also become curious about anti-aging products to help with these signs.

The product I’m reviewing today is my first anti-aging skincare item, and I’m almost through my second bottle: Safi Age Defy Gold Water Essence. The name itself sounds impressive. Before deciding on this essence from Safi, I was initially interested in a similar product from a competitor. But when I tried to buy it at Guardian I couldn’t find it. Then, one of the staffs suggested me to try Safi. I wasn’t familiar with Safi back then, so I thought, “Wow, is this a new skincare brand—where is this from? However, it’s affordable and has elegant packaging.” So, I gave the essence a try because I was really intrigued by its gold content, which is supposed to be great for anti-aging. Not long after, Tasya Farasya reviewed it, and I felt reassured in my choice, haha. Now, it’s my turn to review this essence from Malaysia.

A. Packaging

This product comes in a clear plastic bottle, so you can see the gold flakes in their essence. The gold-colored cap is quite large, making it hard to lose and matching the bottle’s diameter, giving the packaging an elegant look.

On the front of the bottle, besides the brand and product name, the main ingredients—gold extract and silk protein—are highlighted. Safi Age Defy Gold Water Essence is available in 100- and 30-ml sizes.

B. Texture and Aroma

The essence is a thick liquid with gold flakes that pour out with it. What I love about this essence is that it absorbs quickly into the skin, so you don’t have to wait long to apply your next skincare step.

I’m not exactly sure what the essence smells like, but as a regular consumer, I’d say it smells nice. The fragrance is subtle, calming, and not overpowering.

C. Ingredients and Benefits

As mentioned on the packaging, the main ingredients are gold extract and silk protein. Who are they, and how do they contribute to anti-aging? Let’s break it down.

1. Gold Extract: Beyond jewelry, gold can be used for skincare. It helps regenerate skin cells, provides elasticity, and brightens the skin.
2. Silk Protein: The word “silk” initially attracted me to this product, as I imagined it would be great for moisturizing. Here’s a detailed look at its benefits:

• It moisturizes the skin, prevents dryness, and helps makeup stay put.
• Acts as a natural anti-wrinkle agent. The molecular structure of silk protein is similar to collagen fibers, helping to improve skin conditions, boost elasticity, speed up skin metabolism, prevent wrinkles, firm the skin, and make it smooth and soft.
• Inhibits tyrosinase formation. Tyrosinase is an enzyme that catalyzes melanin biosynthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme, silk protein helps keep the skin white, smooth, and bright.
• Blocks over 50% of UVA rays and 90% of UVB rays. UVA rays can cause premature aging, like wrinkles and dark spots.
• Has anti-inflammatory properties, helps heal scars, and repairs skin damage.

D. How to Use

Since this is an essence, use it after toner. In other words, after you wash your face, apply toner, then follow with Safi Age Defy Gold Water Essence. Continue with your skincare routine and end it with a moisturizer. It can be used both in the morning and at night. You can also use this essence as a makeup base or primer to help your foundation stay put.

E. My Experience Using Safi Age Defy Gold Water Essence

When I first used this essence, I hoped my dry skin would become moist and supple because... silk protein, I love you. After applying Safi Age Defy Gold Water Essence, my skin felt brighter, moisturized (dry skin may feel tight at first but becomes moisturized after a few uses), firm, and supple. I’ve been using this product since February 2018. The most noticeable effect is that the acne scars on my cheeks have started to smooth out. This product is safe to use on acne-prone skin like mine.

This product is for those in their 20s and above who are experiencing or want to prevent signs of aging. It can be used by anyone from any background or social class because $16.96 is quite affordable for an anti-aging skincare product.

H. Conclusion

In short, I love this essence, haha. Since I’ve repurchased it, it must be good, right?

Pros:

1. The packaging is plastic, so no worries about breaking it if you drop it.
2. It moisturizes, brightens, prevents wrinkles, and keeps the skin supple and smooth.
3. It doesn’t cause negative reactions on acne-prone skin.
4. Great for dry skin.
5. It can be used as a foundation base to keep makeup from smudging.
6. Halal.

Cons: not ideal for “skipcare” (using essence right after cleansing) because the moisturizing effect isn’t maximized this way. But it’s forgivable since essence is meant to be used after toner.
